Iceland
Iceland is a place of recurring forms – water, weather, wildlife, isolated buildings and enormous distances. Photographed across the island in color and black-and-white, these images became less a record of a route than a collection of impressions.
WATER
In Iceland, water is everywhere – falling, running, freezing, cutting through the land and constantly reshaping it.
Landscapes
Beyond the waterfalls and rivers, Iceland often feels stripped down to its essentials – mountains, open ground, weather and distance.
Wildlife
The animals seemed completely at home in the weather and scale of Iceland – puffins along the cliffs, whales offshore, and brief encounters that made the landscape feel suddenly alive.
SETTLEMENTS
Against all that open land, Iceland’s towns and buildings feel especially deliberate – churches, harbors, streets and small settlements gathered wherever the landscape allows.
In the end, Iceland felt less like a collection of places than a collection of elements – water, weather, wildlife, light and the small signs of people living within all of it.
